Larry's Tale in Virginia |
|
Here is one true tale, at the expense of my "good humored" husband. I think it may elicit a chuckle or two. A few years ago, Larry (my Hubby) visited our friends in Philomont, Virginia. He and his friend, Vas, went out with the Piedmont Foxhounds. Only 20 minutes into the ride, Winter lost his shoe. Larry was disappointed ,but, knew that he could not continue. He politely asked the Honorary Secretary "which way home"? She said without hesitation, "Oh, just that way, the next farm over. You will see the trailers." So, undaunted, Larry headed his trusty steed, Winter, in the correct direction. He and Winter were walking leisurely for a short time. They came across a coop which Winter jumped brilliantly even without one shoe. They came across another and another. Time was passing. Gee, what was it, over an hour since he left the security of the field. When was this farm going to end? The wheels of fear were beginning to spin. "OH GOD, AM I LOST"? Another coop! Larry & Winter found themselves in a beautiful pasture filled with cattle. Black Angus. NO big deal. Winter loves "cows". However, one was not happy with the intruders and decided to charge the lost duo. Larry asked Winter for the full gallop! No holds! They flew out of that pasture via a stiff coop. As Larry was wiping his brow, he spied a farm house!! Praise be to GOD! By now he dismounted...you know it was more than two hours since he & Winter began their short trip home. Luckily, there was a human in sight. Larry inquired. The congenial farm hand assured Larry that we was almost home. Just a quick ride across the stream & up the hill. NO SWEAT. The stream was very narrow. Larry was so tired, he did not want to jump it. He legs ached. So, he decided to hand walk Winter across. Well, Larry put his foot in and to his & Winter's surprise, he sunk to his waist! Now wet, frustrated, tired, and to say the least, a bit "cranky" his fate turned. HE SPOTTED THE TRAILERS! Alleluia! As he made his way back to our Kingston, a broken but extremely relieved man and horse. |
